Entry #1 Escapism and I

In my free time, usually after classes and schoolwork alike, I enjoy playing video games. Though not just for entertainment, but for the sense of calm and familiarity it gives me. Gaming allows me to decompress and step away from troubles going on in life; it is rather healthy, especially if you can learn something of importance for the real world. It is a space where I can relax, reset my inner thoughts, and feel safe emotionally. For me at least, video games are not about passing time just to do so; they give me room to breathe in a world that often feels overwhelming.

That brings me to a game I played about a year ago that left a huge impact on me, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. The game follows a girl named Swann and her 3 friends, Autumn, Katt, and Nora, as they uncover a mystery they have long forgotten. I do not want to go too into the story, but the game is beautifully written, showing the anguish about being "different" as a young woman and how being all that strange is not a horrifying thing at all; it makes you who you are. To put it shortly, the game had left me in tears at the end, so I do recommend it. My older sister also had her own playthrough, and she loved it as well!

Another video game that I played fairly and has also made me cry is Stray. The game follows a stray cat trying to find a way back to his family, but before they can do that, they uncover a mystery from a long-forgotten era. The game's aesthetic and style are gorgeous, and the fact that you play as a literal cat is really charming. The characters you meet are all so interesting that you cannot help but get lost in everything, even down to the music. If you truly want to have that escapism and wonder, these 2 games I cannot help but gush about are the way to go.

  1. Montranay, I thoroughly enjoyed this blog post. The way you shared about how video games give you a safe and calm place to immerse yourself, and be a part of that world, was relatable. I appreciated learning about some featured games that you especially liked as well. It captured my attention and made me curious to explore them. Thank you for putting so much thought into this blog.

  2. I really like the design of the blog very clean and easy to read. Personally when I am playing video games I am a FPS type of person. There are very few story games or RPG's that I play. I don't know why it really just doesn't hit the same as a good FPS game.
